Duchovny and the "X-Files" Movie

For years a TV staple for conspiracy theorists and UFO-believers, The
X-Files Monday took big steps on its long-rumored trip to the big screen when David
Duchovny reportedly agreed to reprise his role as Agent Fox Mulder, and Rob Bowman, a
director of the TV series, was said to be in final negotiations to direct the film.

Duchovny reportedly will pull down $4 million for the role (in the months-long
negotiations he was rumored to have been seeking as much as $10 million), with
profit-sharing still under negotiation.
Under the current scenario, Bowman, an X-Files supervising producer with feature-directing
experience (Airborne), would direct the film, which series creator Chris Carter scripted
and will produce this summer for a release in the summer of 1998. Negotiations continue
with co-star Gillian Anderson, who plays Agent Dana Scully.
While word on the storyline is being tightly guarded, speculation on the X-Files newsgroup
is that the story may deal with the alien-abduction of Mulder's sister Samantha, a
childhood event which led to Mulder's interest in the unknown. However, a 20th Century Fox
spokesman cautioned against speculation: "Only three people have seen the script, so
anything you've heard has been made up by somebody. Don't believe it."
Carter has hinted in the past that a cliffhanger at the end of the fifth season (spring of
1998, his last season under his current contract) will be resolved in the film, which will
also stand on its own for Files newbies.
